Fine Arts

Mission and Vision

The Sumter School District’s Fine Arts Department strives to provide superior, standards-based arts instruction to all students.  It is our aim to foster creativity, self-expression, and enriching arts opportunities that ensure high-quality, equitable arts experiences that coincide with academic achievement in order to promote in our students a life-long appreciation of the arts.

Our vision is to CREATE, SHAPE and INNOVATE a thriving and inclusive arts community where each student is empowered to explore their maximum individual potential in the arts.  We envision a diverse arts community that is celebrated and essential to students’ academic growth, INNOVATIVE thinking, and more importantly, global citizenship.  By providing resources, opportunities, and support to SHAPE artistic expression, we aspire to motivate students to embrace the  transformative power of the arts.  Through the arts, we seek to encourage a future where CREATIVITY is at the heart of education and self-expression, building a more compassionate, well-connected, and vibrant world.

In Sumter School District We Believe:

  • The arts have a profound, positive impact on a student’s life.
  • A comprehensive public arts education is a right.
  • All students deserve the opportunity to participate in a high quality arts program.
  • Students deserve equitable access to artistic educational opportunities.
  • Students must have highly qualified and caring arts teachers and administrators.

Thank You South Carolina Arts Commission!

Sumter School District is immensely grateful for the unwavering support of the South Carolina Arts Commission, whose partnership has had a transformative impact on our schools, arts educators, and students.  Through their generous funding to help support the funding of a full-time District Arts Coordinator, they have strengthened our capacity to lead, support, and expand high-quality arts education across the district.  In addition, the numerous School Arts Support Grants they have provided have made it possible for our teachers and students to access essential supplies, instructional materials, and enriching arts outreach experiences.  Their continued investment has not only elevated arts instruction but has also empowered creativity, equity, and opportunity in every school community we serve.
